Why the use of Marijuana should be made legal?

Cannabis, also known as marijuana or ganja to any number of preparations of the cannabis plant intended for human consumption as a drug, the most common of which is the natural herbal form. Currently marijuana is classified by the federal government as a schedule 1 substance, the worst classification it can possibly receive meaning that the drug has no medical use and has a high potential for abuse.

Marijuana needs to be legalized for the following reasons; it has significant medical potential; is not as abused as the federal government claims; it is not as dangerous as other drugs currently on the market, it currently creates great monetary and human costs, and legalization would prevent crime and corruption.

The articles discusses the advantages of
marijuana and promoting legality of use of marijuana:

What are the reasons for failure of digital millenium act ?

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) is a United States copyright law that implements two 1996 treaties of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). It criminalizes production and dissemination of technology, devices, or services intended to circumvent measures (commonly known as Digital Rights Management or DRM) that control access to copyrighted works. It also criminalizes the act of circumventing an access control, whether or not there is actual infringement of copyright itself.

For in depth analysis of DMCA read the document below :

A review of Tom Perrotta’s The Abstinence Teacher

Tom Perrotta, the reigning bard of American suburbia, can inspire compassion for the most unlikely of subjects. In Election, he humanizes heartless, bitchy Tracy; in Little Children, he measures out kindnesses to Larry the violent racist as well as Ronald the convicted sex offender. But in his latest novel, Perrotta takes on a subject that is perhaps even more difficult to write about in a sympathetic light: evangelical Christianity. The Abstinence Teacher tells the story of an unexpected culture war in cushy northeastern Stonewood Heights, and it all begins when a student in Ruth Ramsey's health class compares oral sex to "French-kissing a toilet seat".

Unfazed, Ruth speaks out for the better qualities of the act, stating nonchalantly, "Some people enjoy it." But when the fundamentalist Tabernacle of the Gospel Truth gets wind of this, the situation balloons into a community crisis, inspiring newspaper headlines like "Oral Sex A-OK, Teacher Tells Kids" (16). Spotting an opportunity to spread Christian values to the schools, the Tabernacle is quick to frame this minor conflict in large moral terms, a method proved effective on other Stonewood Heights sins like adult video rentals and banners that say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas."

The decay of magic: Karen Tei Yamashita’s postmodern fable

In her satirical, surreal debut novel Through the Arc of the Rainforest, karen tei yamashita asks us to believe in magic. She puts forth five original miracles at the beginning of the story: a lucky man named Kazumasa who happens to have a sentient ball floating around his head; feathers that can heal anything; plastic that can recreate life; pigeons that can tell the future; Gilberto, a paralyzed child who learns to walk again. These miracles are all improbabilities in her consumeristic, globalized world, which stretches with little effort from Brazil to New York City to Japan. In a world of skyscrapers and profit reports, these five miracles are fleeting triumphs of one of the few remaining unclassifiable world forces. And, of course, they are quickly exploited: throughout the novel, we see them follow a neat and terrible plot arc of growth, abuse, and death. The mass movements that at first multiply and popularize the magic end up destroying it, and in this we see the larger goal of yamashita's capricious universe. The world bursts with people who ache to believe in something new, who will travel across the world to see a miracle or at least listen to it on the radio. And indeed, the global climate seems ripe for magic, and for brief moments magic springs into being and grows. But ultimately, yamashita's world it can only handle simulacra: organic magic becomes postmodern magic, explosive and manufactured, decaying as fast as it appears.

Magic Tricks

So what, I thought? It was really quite a simple move. When standing in the magic shop, among a group of thirty teenage magicians, their fathers, and the Director of the Society of Young Magicians, there are only two ways to categorize the miniature miracles going on in the hands of these wizards. Either they are performing a trick (making a coin vanish, finding someone's selected card in a pocket) or they are performing a move (secretly moving a coin from his palm to his fingertips, unknowingly transferring a card from the center of the deck to the top). In this case, sleight-of-hand and effect directly overlapped. My friend waved his hand over the deck, and the Queen of Hearts visually changed into the Ace of Spades, accompanied by the immediate spreading of his fingers. Card tricks, or magic tricks, can sometimes be painfully boring. Card tricks are usually associated with mathematical puzzles, not miracles. I always thought the most interesting piece of magic that could be performed with a deck of cards was the color change. I first remember seeing David Copperfield on television perform this elegant affect in the context of a longer trick. As heard from the live audience watching the cards transform in David Copperfield's hands, the illusion of seeing a black spot card go through a visual metamorphosis into a red picture card is appealing aesthetically to the eye, giving us cause to gasp for breathe. There is a certain power in that move. What if we could all transform things so freely, so eloquently? King Midas, despite the tragic misuse of his powers, comes to mind. In our dreams, these dreams held dear throughout time and throughout life, we perceive no immediate danger.

Pay a ticket, value life: Theories of drama in our town

Thorton Wilder's Our Town remains a classic work of existential ideas and American theater because of its universality. While the play does take place specifically in Grover's Corners, New Hampshire, this specific small-town life is a metaphor not even for our own towns; rather, Thorton Wilder's play uses this location in trying to explain our world. Our Town focusses on the cycle of life through two main characters, Emily Webb and George Gibbs, each act covering childhood/daily life, love and commitment, and death respectively. The Stage Manager serves as the storyteller, guiding the audience in-and-out of the play, and we are able to see prototypes of other townsfolk that represent people in ours lives, as was Wilder's intended purpose. While Artaudian surrealism is not too present, the push-and-pull between this mix of Brecht's alienation effects and Aristotle's model for a tragic plot allows Thorton Wilder's Our Town in its many dramatic elements to create a desire for self-social change, where we are able to sympathize with the characters' new understandings of how much they should have valued every moment of their life while they were living it, hopefully inspiring us to do the same.

Self expression in a political environment : A casestudy Czechoslovakia

Throughout history, nations have subordinated others politically, culturally and economically. The ruling regime usually used people who spoke out as an example in order to stifle the rest of the population. The ruling regime would utilize such cases to exercise their power of intimidation. This would further encourage the masses to behave in two distinct ways: privately and publicly. The public behavior would be conformist in nature and not criticize the government. On the other hand, the private world would vocalize criticisms and complaints from intellectuals and working class people alike. In socialist Czechoslovakia, during the sixties and seventies, shifts in the political environment played an important role in whether this polarization of behavior, or dichotomy existed. A dichotomy with regard to vocalizing thoughts and ideas manifested as a result of hardships brought on by the failing communist ideology and fear of the consequences of speaking out against the regime. During the sixties and seventies, changes in Czechoslovak leadership and hardships paved the way for the transformation of the political environment from free to oppressive. With the outdated industrial factories of the 1930's and consumer goods shortage, the sixties was a decade of unrest and hardship. Fortunately, the post-Stalin idealists of Moscow allowed the nation to freely discuss economic reform. The economic reforms also followed social reforms and the rise on interest groups, a factor that worried Antonín Novotný, the president of Czechoslovakia . Therefore, with the rise in dissatisfaction came the rise of a different political figure, Alexander Dubček. Once Novotný was pressured into retirement in 1967, an era of open expression without censorship swept the nation. However, this came to an end with international intervention.

SMTP deciphered

Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) is an Internet standard for electronic mail (e-mail) transmission across Internet Protocol (IP) networks. While electronic mail servers and other mail transfer agents use SMTP to send and receive mail messages, user-level client mail applications typically only use SMTP for sending messages to a mail server for relaying. For receiving messages, client applications usually use either the Post Office Protocol (POP) or the Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) to access their mail box accounts on a mail server.

This article explains SMTP in detail :

Sufficient to have stood: Temptation in Paradise Lost, Paradise Regained and Perelandra

Original sin has a curious, irresolute connection to human freedom. God’s fundamental gifts to His children—reason, imagination, free will—are the very things that give men the desire to sin as well as the ability to resist. This combination makes the Fall of Man a paradoxical event, one that seems inevitable at the same time it appears avoidable. We were not created perfect; rather, we were created temptable, and with vivid imaginations. As shown in John Milton’s Paradise Lost, such a condition of independence makes for a rich road between temptation and the outcome, which can only be one of two opposites: standing or falling. Adam and Eve find themselves tempted, and, equipped only with innocence, they fall. But alternate possibilities weave ephemerally throughout the rest of Milton’s epic, possibilities of goodness and lasting purity that accentuate the sad precariousness of Eve’s fall. In hinting at these auxiliary stories, Milton subtly reminds us that steadfastness in the face of evil was always attainable, and in Paradise Regained, he shows Jesus divinely embodying this capability.

Dialectical inquiry : A philosopher's perspective

Dialectic (also called dialectics or the dialectical method) is a method of argument, which has been central to both Eastern and Western philosophy since ancient times. Dialectic is rooted in the ordinary practice of a dialogue between two people who hold different ideas and wish to persuade each other.

One particularly essential tool for philosophers is the dialectical method of inquiry, which consists of establishing a dialogue between competing philosophical viewpoints so that one might eventually overcome the other through rational deductions. In this manner, philosophy is able to progress toward a better understanding of the Forms rather than simply arguing in circles about irrelevant thought experiments.

Aristotle's teleology

The word "teleological" is derived from the Greek word telos, meaning "end" or "purpose". Teleology is the supposition that there is purpose or directive principle in the works and processes of nature.

This essay will first introduce Aristotle's argument for the reality of change taking place in the natural world, in contrast to earlier philosophers who viewed all instances of “change” as the result of inconsistent sensory perceptions.

Diesel Engines : A Peformance evaluation experiment

A diesel engine is an internal combustion engine that operates using the diesel cycle. Diesel engines have the highest thermal efficiency of any internal or external combustion engine, because of their compression ratio.

Go green is a term that is being used very frequently everywhere. everyone in the world is becoming more and more energy conscious. People everywhere are switching to renewable sources of energy with the petroleum fast depleting and the prices sky rocketing. There are attempts being made to switch to alternate sources of energy.

During the past year, a systematic experimental study of various oxygenated molecules on engine performance was carried out using oxygenates from the main functional families: ethers, esters, aldehydes, alcohols and ketones. Diethyl ether appears as a considerable choice among many available oxygenates as a supplementary fuel of choice for eliminating dependency on petroleum. DEE is also recently reported as a renewable fuel and to a low emission high quality diesel fuel replacement.

An interesting experiment carried on diesel engines using
blends of diehtyl ether, diesel and diethyl ether and bio diesel yielded the results that are summarized in the article below :

Applications of data mining and data warehousing in improving sales

The traditional approach to customer acquisition involved a marketing manager developing a combination of mass marketing (magazine advertisements, etc.) and direct marketing (telemarketing, etc.) campaigns based on their knowledge. In the case of traditional direct marketing, customer acquisition is relatively similar to mass marketing. A marketing manager selects the demographics that they are interested in, and then works with a data vendor (service bureau) to obtain lists of customers who meet those characteristics.

Data warehousing and data mining can be effectively used in improving sales. Find out how by reading the article below :

Simulation of transient for power transmission lines

The simulation of transient phenomena is for coordination of the insulation as well as the proper design of the protection schemes. Such simulation is also needed to analyze unexpected transient phenomena after their occurrence.. By nature these phenomena are combinations of traveling wave effects on overhead lines and cables, and of oscillations of lumped circuits of generators, transformers and other devices. It is practically impossible to study these electromagnetic transients using hand calculations except for very simple cases. This complexity led to the simulation of transients using computer.

Security concerns in WSns

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is one of the trends that has posed numerous challenges for researchers. These networks consists of potentially thousands of tiny sensor nodes, functioning independently, some without access to renewable energy resources. Routing is seen as a major bottleneck in WSN.

wireless sensor networks are extremely vulnerable against any kind of internal or external attacks, due to several factors such as low computation capability, small memory, resource-constrained nodes and lack of tamper-resistant packages, limited energy resources, susceptibility to physical capture. These constraints make security challenging in WSNs. The key issues are discussed here :

Key issues, challenges and roles in the Indian energy sector : Distributed Generation

Distributed generation, also called on-site generation, dispersed generation, embedded generation, decentralized generation, decentralized energy or distributed energy, generates electricity from many small energy sources.

In this paper the traditional approach in electric power generation is to have centralized plants distributing electricity through an extensive transmission & distribution network. A fundamental shift is taking place in the way in which electricity is being produced and distributed. Traditionally, the 'proper' manner of production of electricity has been in large, centralized power stations from where it is distributed to load centers through equally massive transmission networks.

How to harness Wind energy effectively?

Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into a useful form, such as electricity, using wind turbines. Individual turbines are interconnected with a medium voltage (usually 34.5 kV) power collection system and communications network. At a substation, this medium-voltage electrical current is increased in voltage with a transformer for connection to the high voltage transmission system.

Grid connection of wind energy sources is essential if they are to be effectively exploited, but grid connection brings a number of problems. In the paper, Distributed Generation and Wind Power integration problems are discussed.

The hobbesian state of nature: A prisoner's dilemma?

In his 1651 work Leviathan, English philosopher Thomas Hobbes argues in favor of a societal structure in which individuals must waive a portion of their natural rights to an “artificial man” in order to avoid battling with each other. Most famously, Hobbes declared that this condition of war was the “default scenario” that ought to be expected among humans in a government-less “state of nature,” based on scientific principles of motion and matter which hold true in the workings of the human mind. As if through inertia, humans continue to desire additional resources (both tangible and symbolic) after they have fulfilled their basic needs, making it only a matter of time until multiple lines of human desire converge upon the same finite resource and some of the lines are fatally severed. However, through a unique grasp of symbolic language and gestures, humans have the capacity to create social contracts which rescue their creators from the physical and psychological terrors of struggling to survive in the state of nature.

Hobbes's account of religion/nationalism and terror management theory

Throughout Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes makes repeated reference to the primacy of human consciousness in provoking individuals to subject themselves to the rule of a sovereign. Specifically, the ability to conceptualize oneself as a discrete entity with a past and (imaginable) future, combined with a propensity for causal reasoning, places humans in the problematic position of fully perceiving our inevitable mortality. This perception includes both a general recognition that all organisms have finite life spans and a more acute form of terror related to the possibility (and uncontrollability) of suffering a particularly gruesome death at any moment. Hobbes argues that, at the ground level, the state and organized religion exist not only to deliver us from the actual physical conflict of the state of nature, but equally importantly, from the psychological terror that arises in an environment where death is quite salient.

Arkansas state government: Political environment, institutions, and legislation

The state of Arkansas' distinct political environment requires a well planned policy initiative in order to drastically change policy, such as to increase the state's income tax. With a number of costly initiatives currently being implemented, particularly in infrastructure and education, an argument could be made that a reasonable income tax hike would be necessary. This hike could be made relatively easily if presented effectively to the state's legislature and executive branch, since both are controlled by democrats. These income tax increases could be treated and presented as investments in the state's education system as well as in its infrastructure.

With a very competitive and relatively balanced political climate, the state of Arkansas stands out in a region of the United States that is typically dominated by conservatives.

Jerry Seinfeld, the artist : What’s his deal?

Mel Brooks once said, "Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you walk into an open sewer and die." Humor's never sounded so pure. Mel Brooks seems to be saying that what's funny is what's most extreme while truthful in the resultant unexpected pain of a circumstance. While it makes sense that many modern television sitcoms often follow through on their comedic impulses until the end of each episode (Curb Your Enthusiasm, 30 Rock), TV Land has certainly had its fair share of pansies. Until the 1990s, sitcoms were often based on one-problem premises for predefined characters, many one-liners, and a lesson learned at the end of each episode. "Aaaawwww." Any tragedy or pain that came from these shows was as a result of hard events we related to in our own lives (going out on a first date, getting fired from our job, the awkward family vacation, etc.). These were life-situation comedies, and the humor came from the little cuts in our finger that might interrupt how we wanted to pursue our larger life purposes as humans, plus three-minute commercial breaks and canned laughter. The ending of each show was like a band aid, and soon enough our leading characters' boo-boos were all cleared up by next week's episode. It makes me want to puke. As displayed in his standup, his television show, his animated movie, and his writing, I think Jerry Seinfeld did also.

Disney world the happiest place on earth

Disney World was never an illusion to me as a child; I could see right through it. "It's a theme park," my mom would explain to me. What an interesting idea. It was tangibility's final step in the evolution of imagination. First there were the playgrounds I knew as a child, consisting of swing-sets and slides, bare-boned tools that required our own minds to fill in the gaps if we wanted to be transported somewhere else with our playmates. Then there was the amusement park, requiring less imagination while still retaining all the valid symbolism. When we reached the top of the Ferris Wheel, it was as if we had conquered the globe, looking down on all the continents and the waters, all the life below us. The carnival games represented the "you-win-some, you-lose-some" aspects of our lives, demanding risk for rewards. The theme park, however, had the greatest edge. Whatever lied in our imaginations, whatever we took for granted on the page or from the screen, the theme park made these fantasies into visible realities in front of our eyes. The land of imagination existed; it was at the theme park.
I have been to Disney World in Orlando, Florida five times. I was four, seven, ten, eleven, and seventeen. I feel like it's been a big part of my life; I have memories of the shows, the rides, and the innovations. Disney World is not just a theme park; it's its own separate world of clean grass and trees, glossy highway strips and the warm glow of the sun. Indeed, a utopia hidden within the state of Florida. As we drove for twenty minutes through the resort, it was apparent how much land, how much space, the Disney empire had enveloped as its own.

Juno: What’s good for you?

Sex, sex, sex, and more sex. Everyone of us have faced adolescent issues "Does the media dictate the people in society, or do people in society dictate the media?" Sadly enough, the answer's the former. To live in the Western world means our culture follows the philosophy of achievement (money, love, success, happiness). Indeed, we must continue blaming the CEOs, Halliburton, and advertisers for influencing our deep consciousnesses into thinking our lives should be run a certain way to do anything great. Men'll keep drinking beer to meet women and party, and women'll keep drinking Slim-Fast so they can have a self-esteem. We're a quick-fix nation, a "now" nation. But our "now" is the now of yearning, the now of what we think we should have in the future. Americans keep seeking external desires that will make us happy...that will make us "feel good." That's what we all want deep down. To feel good. G-d bless the USA.

Youth discomfort and civilization discomfort : A clash of values

In search of authentic human values in the perspective of transpersonal psychology. The Italian news in recent months has brought some disturbing news about the world of childhood and adolescence. Was the focus of the media, the young killers of their parents, for reasons of inheritance, "baby killers" and rapist of teenage girls? On emotion evoked by these events, numerous and disparate efforts have been made by several parties, to interpret the phenomenon from a sociological, psychological and psychiatric. Such behavior should be regarded as highly unusual and deviant, or represent only the extreme expression of a "continuum" that leads to them? Phenomena of youth most widespread and frequent, as behaviors, the addiction, violence, individual or group, as affecting in modern industrial society? Especially in youth, as frequently investigated and discussed, as is the related physiological adolescent identity crisis and what can be correctly attributed to our cultural models of development and integration with society? There is a crisis of epochal model of family? What role it could play in these phenomena of youth deviance? Probably can never fully describe and analyze phenomena so uneven and changing so quickly, such as customs and styles of social behavior by adolescent's, in modern industrial societies. Some sociological data may, however, be useful tools for reflection, for those who as parents or for carrying on professional activities, such as teachers, psychologists, doctors, come into daily contact with this population.

European renaissance unplugged

During the middle ages, when Feudal Europe witnessed a period of intellectual and cultural stagnation, the cities of Italy such as Venice, Florence, and Milan prospered as trading posts connecting Europe to the Byzantine Empire and the Muslim world via the Mediterranean Sea. Unlike the rest of Europe, feudalism had not established itself in Northern Italy, where commerce and mercantilism became an integral activity of daily life.

The Black Death that caused widespread devastation in Europe during the 1350's struck Florence hard, causing the loss of almost 90 percent of its populace. This familiarity with death made survivors dwell more on their lives on Earth, rather than on spirituality and the afterlife. The Italian people, especially the educated middle class, became interested in individual achievement and emphasized life in this world, as opposed to preparation for life in the next world. Side by side, the Black Death also prompted a new wave of piety that manifested in the sponsorship of religious works of art.

Vector Quantization in image compression and speech recognition

There are a vast number of applications of Vector Quantization. One area where it is extensively used is in Image and Speech processing. Compressing image data by using Vector Quantization (VQ)[1]-[3] will compare Training Vectors with Codebook. The implementing Random Codebook will reduce the image quality. This paper presents the Splitting solution to implement the Codebook, which improves the image quality by the average Training Vectors, then splits the average result to Codebook that has minimum distortion. The result from this presentation will give the better quality of the image than using Random Codebook.

Digital hearing aid : Implementation using wavelete transformation

Hearing impairment is one of the disability affecting people in the world. People find it difficult to understand speech with background noise. Investigations on speech intelligibility have demonstrated that subjects with sensorineural loss may need a 5-15 dB higher signal-to-noise ratio than the normal hearing subjects. While most defects in transmission chain up to cochlea can nowadays be successfully rehabilitated by means of surgery, the great majority of the remaining inoperable cases are sensorineural hearing impaired. Recent statistics of the hearing impaired patients applying for a hearing aid reveal that 20% of the cases are due to conductive losses, more than 50% are due to sensorineud losses, and the rest 30% of the cases are of mixed origin.

Digital compression technique and Set top box decoding

Digital television is fasting adding a new paradigm to the future of television. With the advent of audio and video compression it is possible to transmit and receive broadband data over co-axial cable and through satellite and terrestrial. Digital modulation data, which is digitally compressed and requires decoding by a specially designed television set or a standard receiver with a set-top box. For all delivery mechanism a digital set-top box is needed at the customer's premises. It receives the digital transmission and decodes video, audio programs to display on normal Television Receiver.

Smart homes : Remote triggering based embedded servers

Home automation is an up-and-coming trend that the public looks for in residential houses, apartments, and commercial businesses.Although many techniques used in building automation (such as light and climate control, control of doors and window shutters, security and surveillance systems, etc.) are also used in home automation, additional functions in home automation can include the control of multi media home entertainment systems.

this paper, a new scheme in smart home systems technology using Embedded server for providing intelligent control of home appliances is proposed. A wireless based Embedded server act as protocol glue that incorporates wireless option such as Short Message Service (SMS) router with wireless local area network (WI-FI) for intelligent automation and higher speed of Home appliances connectivity. With remote triggering capabilities, it sits at the core of the home network, acts as residential gateway and enables bi-directional communication and data transfer channel among networked appliances in the home and across the Internet. The proposed server has been implemented and verified that the system can be a core device for smart home environment.

Cluster computing : What networking technology to use?

Cluster computing is an example of interconnection technology. As the price of network hardware in a cluster can vary from almost free to several thousands of dollars per computing node, the decision is not a minor one in determining the overall price of the cluster. Many very effective clusters have been built from inexpensive products that are typically found in local area networks. However, some recent network products specifically designed for cluster communication have a price that is comparable to the cost of a workstation. The choice of network technology depends upon a number of factors, including price, performance, and compatibility with other cluster hardware and system software as well as communication characteristics of applications that will use the cluster.

Graphic processing unit(GPU) and computer vision signal processing

Graphic processing units (GPUs) found on most personal computers, often exceed (in number of transistors as well as in compute power) the capabilities of the Central Processing Unit (CPU). This paper shows speedups attained by using computer graphics hardware for implementation of computer vision algorithms by efficiently mapping mathematical operations of computer vision onto modern computer graphics architecture. As an example computer vision algorithm, we implement a camera motion tracking routine on modern, GeForce FX class GPUs. Algorithms are implemented using OpenGL and the nVIDIA Cg fragment shaders. Trade-offs between computer vision requirements and GPU resources are discussed. Algorithm implementation is examined closely, and hardware bottlenecks are addressed to examine the performance of GPU architecture for computer vision.

Reconfigurable Computing : A high level abstraction language

An ANN based approach has been used to tune the gain parameters of the SVC controller over a wide range of load characteristics. The multi-layer feed-forward ANN tool with the error back propagation training method is employed. Loads have been taken as the function of voltage. Analytical techniques have mostly been based on impedance load reduced network models, which suffer from several disadvantages, including inadequate load representation and lack of structural integrity. The ability of ANNs to spontaneously learn from examples, reason over inexact and fuzzy data and provide adequate and quick responses to new information not previously stored in memory has generated high performance dynamical system with unprecedented robustness. ANNs models have been developed for different hybrid power system configurations for tuning the proportional-integral controller for SVC.

Chip multiprocessors with multiple cache

This paper proposes a non inclusive cache implementation where any data item can be present only at one level in cache hierarchy. So, aggregate cache space available will be more and more data can be present on chip, hence reducing of chip communication. Advantage of implementing inclusion property is ease of maintaining coherence, since coherence has to be maintained only at the last level cache. This paper proposes a coherence protocol which is slight modification of existing protocols, to maintain coherence in non inclusive caches.

Are performance models reliable?

Performance models of high performance computing (HPC) applications are important. Suitability of a performance model, however, for a particular performance model is a function of both the accuracy and the cost.

In this paper we present a new approach to capture these unknown features to improve the predictive capabilities of the model. This approach uses a systematic model error-correction procedure that uses evolutionary algorithms to find an error correction term to augment the existing model. Four variations of this procedure were investigated and all were shown to produce better results.

Recesssion and how India has couped with it

One of the most immediate effects of the recession has been that the Indian stock market has taken a beating due to the FIIs pulling out their money. But the promise of a stable government and clear majority has helped to fuel the growth of the economy. India's G.D.P. Growth estimate for the current fiscal (2008-2009) has been down graded from 8 percent to 7.4 percent and for the next Financial year (2008-2009) from 8.5 percent to 7 percent. This has still been a triumph for the new government and policy holders.
